A Friend.
A friend is someone
who listens to your ramblings without passing judgment,
whom you run to when you've had a bad time,
who accepts you for who you are (cliche but true!),
you can call when you feel afraid because of weird noises,
you can call when you feel stupid,
you can call when you feel lost and confused,
who lugs a heavy history file to school just to let you photocopy it,
who makes breakfast and prepares food just to cheer you up,
who lets you stay over when you need a place,
who sends thoughtful messages when you're not feeling well,
who keeps your secrets,
who lends you a pen just before a major exam and doesn't even bother to ask for it back,
can listen to your nonsense for a whole day,
who doesn't have to be right all the time,
you feel comfortable around,
who genuinely cares,
and..
who has read the above and knows they are being mentioned.
I have always thought about friendship and what it means. How the whole 'best friends forever' thing is supposed to work.
Is it possible to BE someone's friend but have them not befriend you back? Is there such a thing as a one sided friendship?
I think the worst part of any 'friendship' is finding out that someone whom you've trusted and regarded as a friend secretly hates you or is pretending to like you.
I can't stand it when people pretend to like someone else or puts up an appearance just to fool others.
While secretly whispering malicious gossip to the ear of another 'friend'.
I have had enough of politics and mind games,
enough of people faking around in general or keeping up appearances.
I know that in this world there is such a thing as being business minded and street smart.
But I promise myself that I won't compromise on my principles for the sake of achieving a certain goal.
After all,
What's the point of making it all the way to the top if you have to take everything that you are,
piss on it,
spit on it,
step on it,
then throw it in the dumpster (or the rubbish chute).
I don't want to aim to attain the highest academic/career achievement or make the most money or be the most popular.
I want to aim to be the most genuine person I can be.
I want to be a true friend.
I want to make a greater impact in other people's lives.
"In a lifetime, it is so rare to find someone who loves you for whoever you are, I'm lucky to have found three."
No, Chan Luo Er, this doesn't sound like I am DYING.
