Just finished studying Lit for tomorrow's exam, and I just had to write down my thoughts on the book that i'm studying, "The English Teacher".
After reading it again, I really got into the book and realised what a beautifully, masterfully written book it is. I felt really really saddened when reading it again as I could feel Krishna's(The main charater) pain in losing his wife and later having to let his mother take care of his child. As I read through it again, I felt really saddened by Krishna's loneliness at the end of the story. He starts out as being alone, living in the hostel and ends up being alone again. He unites with his child and his wife only to lose them again.
The love and devotion that Krishna has towards his wife is really heart-warming. He is always relishing in the pleasant memories of him and his wife and I always feel happy when I read about them being together. The sad thing about it is that Susila, his wife, dies in the third chapter. I think the last 2 chapters of the book are the saddest, especially when Krishna returns home to an empty house that was once filled with his family. His family is separated in the end. He is still in Malgudi, teaching children. His wife is in the "after life" that is described in the book. His daughter is living with his mother.
To conclude, this incredibly sad story is an amazing book. Go and read it if you have not.
